Gents,
Tower Records is no more. It has been sold for divestiture and dissolution. They really have only themselves to blame - they simply refused to change with the changing market. But, it's quite unfortunate - end of an era.
The Tower.com site may live on, however, as it was sold separately.

Remember, Le, when Tower was THE place to go when you wanted to find that scarce record or tape? I remember it was down at Mill and University, and you could get anything there. What a tragedy. But then again, if Tower had changed with the times, they simply would not be the same outfit anyway. It's tough to let go of a historical figure. I still can't believe that now a place like WalMart is where people buy their discs.
Just look at the name, it has the word Records in it. A sign of the era they were popular in. I don't think Apple is the cause for them to go out of business. Walmart is probably more likely the culprit. I think it would have been nice if they changed into something like a cross between Barnes and Noble and the Apple store. A coffee bar where you can relax and listen to new music and buy MP3's from their in store server.
I agree, Stitch. In fact, everyone has beem changing, and as we see with Tower, those that don't dissolve. It doesn't matter how great they were in their heyday.
I do remember that, Lo. It's really too bad. I used to love hangin' out there and browsing the music. And back in the day, they had the best prices, but then they went to the worst!
