Le and Macminni. Is it possible that the introduction of the iPhone was not revolutionary enough to get you post on Macnight? We are waiting with anticipation for your comments and insight to this new device. Apple TV seemed like a much more secondary release but in the long run could blossom into some really cool device when very high speed internet connections become more prevalent.
Hello...............
are you out there........................

Le, I do believe the forum would benefit from your insights! Do tell!
Stitch, no, no one is here!!
OK, now seriously, my comment on the iPhone is this - while I do believe that they are not trying to be all things to all people - Apple is good at avoiding that - they nevertheless have come up with a product that is trying very hard to do many things. So, the risks for not doing all things well goes up. That gets to the comment I had e-mailed to Lo - I was a little disappointed, because I had hoped for an iPod only product that did not have the phone and internet - sort of an awesome iPod only. All that being said, it's very, very slick!

Welcome back Le. Good insight about the iPhone. But I believe that Apple needed to start with a flagship product with all the bells and wistles from a development of new technology standard and from the WOW factor. They can now go ahead and scale back some of these features in less expensive models like they did with the iPod.
One question I have is, "Is the click wheel dead?" Now that they have multipoint or whatever it is called there does not seem a need for the clickwheel. Any ideas?
It will be fascinating to see where it all leads. Does Apple now consider the scroll wheel to be obsolete? They're the ones who will make the decision. Since none of us have used the multi touch technology, it's hard to say if it makes any sense to continue offering the scroll wheel on iPods.
Does Apple give Le what he desires - a multi touch iPod only that is wide screen? That would have a huge market!, but would it impact iPhone sales? I would think not.
Honestly, the only compromise in terms of quality of use that Apple made is the paltry memory, in my opinion. The iPhone can't be a viable video player if it only has 4 Gb of memory for all its functions. Can Apple solve this? More memory would obviously help, and as the prices come down, they may very well be able to offer a 30 Gb flash memory iPhone down the road, in which case one truly does have the best of all worlds!
I agree that the memory is small for the iPhone. But the cost is already so high as it is. If you compare it to other cell phones, this is a huge amount of memory. But compared to video players it is not. The compromises of an all in one device. Maybe 3rd party devices will allow an attachable external hard drive since it has the same port as all iPods.
