HD on iTunes rumor

I read an article that says Apple is ready to put HD content on iTunes:

HD on iTunes

In my opinion, that was the single biggest drawback to a device like the Apple TV. Why would I want to spend money for content I know will have to look dated fairly soon? Apple TV makes a heck of a lot more sense when you can send HD content to an HD TV. And if Apple allows customers to rent movies instead of buying them forever, that would take them much higher. It would be like Blockbuster without ever leaving the house. As it is, you pay around $3.00 to rent a regular DVD. It makes sense! What's your take?

I agree that HD is the future. Come 2009 all terrestrial broadcasts will be HD due to a federal law. So it only makes sense to go HD as soon as Apple could do it technically. Maybe the existing Apple TVs will be able to play HD quality too.
I also agree that rentals is the way to go. But I would prefer something like a Netflix approach than to pay per movie. But then if you don't have to return anything what prevents you from watching a new movie every night. Except that you would run out of movies to watch.
