iMac turns 10 years Old
I just can't believe it. Ten years have passed since the introduction of the original Bondi Blue iMac. Macworld does some speed benchmark tests beginning with a Grape iMac up to the current Core 2 Duo shiny screen iMac. I still remember the old ads for the multi-colored iMacs (yummy!). I must admit, I don't miss the old cathode ray tube iMacs! The current designs are definitely huge improvements. And yet, I still have a tinge of regret of never buying the Flower Power iMac model!

They still use some of these old iMacs at my kids school. Of course the whole school is Mac based. You see these older ones in places where speed does not matter. Most of their Macs are the eMac white variety. I still have my Bondi Blue iMac. The kids won't touch it though. They say it is too slow. But every so often I see them playing some of the old games on it. I tried to install Linux on it to give it a new life. But I was unable to boot the install disk for Linux. The install process for Linux required some pretty hard core steps which I don't feel comfortable with. You don't mess with the PROM settings unless you are a hacker.
Stitch, I'm still in a quandary over what to do with my old beige G3 with the gigantic monitor. It still runs OSX 10.2 Jaguar pretty well, and it is my portal to OS9 and the classic operating system. I can't let it go, Stitch! Do you think I could buy a cheap flat screen monitor and use it with the G3? The CRT is just too darn big!
Actually, buying a good flat screen might be a good idea. I have thinking that in the future, I would prefer to get the pro series desktop Macs. Then you keep your monitor and peripherals. The iMacs are nice but the Pro series would seem to be a longer time before upgrades. Anyways it's a dream right now, no funds for any computer purchases in the near future.
Wait a minute, I take that back. There are no low end Pro versions anymore. What happened to the $1600 version? Now the lowest price is $2800 !!!! This is foolish. Isn't there a large market for real desktop systems which have expansion capability? The iMac cannot cover all bases. Signed, Disappointed.
