It surprised me that the Amazon download service has not picked up a big head of steam:

When I shop at Amazon, it is incredibly convenient to download the MP3 tracks they offer, and if you have an Amazon account I think it is laughably simple! It seems like a really good service, so I'm happy that iTunes is still top dog. Apple does have a nice position in that if you use their iTunes software for organizing music, it is just a click away from shopping the iTunes music store.
You are probably right, Stitch, in that the DRM just isn't a huge factor. I mean, Amazon is currently selling these tracks DRM free, so maybe it just isn't the must have feature (no DRM) for digital music buyers. Most of us really don't care - I know I don't. As long as I can play them on my iPod and burn discs I want, I really don't care. How about you guys?

I bet a lot of people don't even realize there is DRM. Hey if you buy songs from iTunes, load them on your iPod and it works. Who is going to read the fine print? If someone decided that they don't want to use an iPod anymore and move their music collection, then they may come to a sudden realization but you can still convert all your songs to MP3 format without DRM.
As for Amazon not taking off. I think it is because you can get the songs onto your iPod seemlessly. There are extra steps for Amazon music. Even if they are not many. And people are creatures of habit. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
You know, that is a very good point. I didn't think about how easy it is to buy music on iTunes and have in synced so behind the scenes. It's something I take for granted, and isn't that one of the things that makes Apple so great?
