Multi Tasking on iPhone

Stitch, rumor has it that multi tasking will be a feature of iPhone OS4.0. It seems like a logical next step. Given the way cut and paste evolved, it seems like a reasonable assumption. I just wonder how they got around the drain on battery life? How necessary is it really? Sometimes I wonder. What do you think?

I guess the problem with multitasking was that it took too much of the memory resources and the overhead of switching applications. Maybe now that memory is cheaper it is no longer an issue. The original 4GB and slower processor version may have had issues back then. That's my guess.

With the competition from Android, I fully expect great things out of the iPhone. Multi-tasking, if it shows up, will be done right! And who knows? Maybe Apple's proprietary silicon will show up in the iPhone as well, and maybe they can produce an energy advantage that way as well. That's kind of wishful thinking on my part, but it sure would be a competitive advantage. Then the iPhone would multi-task better than ANY of the Android droids.
