Very well thought out article. I think both of us identify with the author in that we didn't think we would be affected this much. At first I was kind of in disbelief. When I first heard the tweet that said he had died, I immediately checked the internet and didn't find the articles, but that's because it was just breaking. The next morning was when I started to feel sad.
There is no question that Apple consists of an awful lot of brilliant people, and as Jobs said so many times, this Apple way of doing things is encoded in the DNA at Apple. John Gruber said something like, "Jobs' greatest creation was not a product, but rather Apple itself". So think of Apple as being a creation that creates the products. Jobs was never solely responsible for the design and manufacture of the products, but he built the company that does.
The company will live on we we both know. I'm not sure I buy the idea that there are 4 years worth of products in the pipeline at various design stages, but I guess it's possible!
I think Apple and most companies have at least a four year plan. Apple is so secretive its hard to imagine that someone on the outside has been able to spy on how Apple works on the inside. This is probably speculation at best. Sometimes the media acts like Jobs did everything at Apple and everyone else was standing around dumbfounded as to what to do. Like you say, he has created a "machine" to continue to create amazing things in the future. Who knows, Jobs may have held back some really great ideas that will now be released. I still think AppleTV has a lot of great potential. Maybe if they buy Hulu as they say in rumors this can become bigger. And it is an iOS device. I say unleash the developers on AppleTV.
