Here comes a broadside from Microsoft. They are releasing a Halo 3 themed Zune for June. It will have a black case with Halo style graphics. It will also include artwork, music, and videos from the upcoming release of Halo 3 in September, preloaded on the hard drive. So I guess Zune will now offer video too. It will still be a 30GB drive and cost $249. This must be MS answer to the June release of the iPhone.

How many music lovers out there want a Halo themed music player? I would argue that the Zune should have been released with video capability to begin with, so the video ability just brings the Zune to have a reasonable feature set. Then, I just don't see why this would make the Zune a hot item. That is, the Halo market does not drive the music market by a long shot. What do you think?
Good grief - this is a game, right? I am so out of it with regard to things like this! Well, it may score some points with the younger consumers then.

Halo may just be a game, but it is the most popular video game of all time and has been driving Xbox sales since the initial Xbox. Zune 3 is due out in September. This is something people camp out overnight for. I wouldn't underestimate the power of Halo. My son in college has raved about this game saying it has a very strong cult following. It is basically a game where you are on another planet with high tech weapons and you just shoot at each other. You can play on teams, over the internet. I personally suck at it and die quite often. Of course I have only played twice.
As to how many people want a Halo music player. Virtually any high school or college age guy has played and loved this game. It has a strong following. People have even made videos for YouTube with animations from Halo. Check out Halo on YouTube.
Ah, but you said it yourself, Stitch. A "cult" following! That necessarily implies a limited audience. And I know what you're thinking, Le - Mac people are also of a cult. Not true! We are a kindred spirit, which is not the same thing!
When I said cult following I was refering to how devoted people who play it are. Very similar to how strong Apple followers feel about Apple products. I don't think that implies a small group, just a avid group of followers.
Face it gents...it is hard to tell the difference between Apple fanatics and cult followers! :-)
