Here is the Wall Street Journal's review of the Kindle:
Kindle Review
Mossberg thinks the Kindle is poorly designed, although it does have some nice features. And to think that Amazon invested 3 years of design for the thing! Let's face it - Apple is just better at designing the software, and the hardware to go with it, for cool and useful electronic devices.

I cannot help but wonder if the process of reading books on a screen, even a great screen, is somehow lacking in the sort of ineffable, enjoyable quality of handling and feeling and turning actual pages. Makes me wonder whether society will be able to take to these types of devices anytime soon.

I saw the promotional video from Amazon for the Kindle and they admit the same thing. That they knew that had a hard sell. And that they needed to have features that a regular book doesn't posses. I think being able to get a book almost instantly through a network was what they were banking on. Plus the auto updates of periodicals like the NY Times. It will interesting to see if the book community feels this is worth giving up the tactile feel of a book.
