Stitch, does this mean the venerable Classic iPod is on the way out?
Classic iPod
I can't help it - I hope the classic iPod survives. I think there are still a lot of people who want the additional capacity, and don't need all the additional functions of a Touch. What do you think? Should Apple let the classic die?

It was always just a matter of time. As flash ram prices drop the hard drives will fade away. But as you say there is always a market for people who want the large storage space for less money. I am sure Apple is evaluating the market and when the number of people in this group drops too low, the hard drive based versions will disappear. Apple is notorious for pulling the plug on technology before anyone else. If it was up to Dell we would still have floppy drives in our cell phones. I see my old Classic iPod as being dated. Maybe if they came out with an iPod Touch version with the hard drive it may survive longer but limiting the amount of storage space is a marketing tool for Apple. As shown by the lack of user upgradability in storage space.
