iPad2 is HERE
Stitch, the iPad2 made it's much vaunted debut. Dual core, gyroscope, 33% thinner, front and rear facing cameras. But the two things which surprised me might seem modest to you:
1. The new cover seemed very slick. With all those colors and the fact that it is a convenient stand for the iPad2, seems like a lot of droolworthy stuff for such a diminutive case.
2. GARAGEBAND!! Man, for a $5 application, that induces drool from a Garageband user like myself!
What did you think? Does Apple stay ahead of the competition?

I have to admit, I am impressed with the iPad2. I think the cameras and the gyroscope were a given. Since they want to make all of the iOS devices consistant. What is lacking is the Retina display, which for a screen this size may have been too expensive. Maybe it will show up in iPad3 ( rumored in September !!!). I am tempted to buy one of these. I have tried the iPod Touch but feel that for all but the simplest applications is too small for my fat fingers. The iPad seems a better fit. Yes it is not as portable, but I do have a regular cell phone and it fits my needs.
The new apps of Garageband and iMovie are amazing. Apple cranks out this high level of software in such a short period of time. It makes MS look like they are asleep at the wheel. I despise the newer MS Office 2007 that we have at work. The way things are organized is so chaotic. It is a step back from previous versions. But enough about MS junk. The GB and iMovie look to be so intuitive and with some amazing programming feature such as the force sensing of the instruments is just showing off. Jobs even said that Apple wanted to inspire other developers to create high caliber apps like GB and IM. It is tempting to make a purchase.
Amen, Stitch, and halleluja! Robin and I are having that discussion right now. We want one so bad, and it's hard to turn away! I can tell you I would want the 64 Gb version. I am convinced that the working life of an Apple product is extended with additional memory.
Garageband would be an absolute must for me. Just think, Stitch, when the iPad2 arrives in the Apple stores. Think about all those consumers playing with iMovie and Garageband, and being absolutely blown away! I still remember when Garageband first came out - people were so excited that the store sold tons of the USB input keyboard accessory. I think this is similar - Garageband and Facetime and such will sell gobs of the iPad2 itself!
The cool factor is off the charts.
