Palm Pre syncs with iTunes

Stitch check out the article:

Syncs with iTunes

I don't know if any other smart phone that could do this. And it seems perfectly legal? It is interesting that no other smart phone has ever tried this until now. Or are there others?

Syncs with iTunes. Hmmm. I would say for now. Are they going to update their software everytime Apple changes iTunes? Of course all of the iTunes Music Store purchases will not play on the Pre.
It looks like Apple is sort of an operating system company now with iTunes. It can be a front end for other devices but does Apple have an obligation to stay compatible with these other devices as an operating system does? I think not. Apple could issue a new update and break the compatibility with the Pre at anytime. Then users would have to decide if they want iTunes or the Pre more. And then switch to another import software or the iPhone/iTouch/iPod.
It still seems like the Pre is another, "almost an iPhone". Which is not a compelling reason for people to buy it. Are they going to be cheaper/more feature rich/easier to use/better network than the iPhone? I don't see which area they excel at to be a reasonable competitor. Maybe someday they will, but not with this release.

It also seems to me that this is a do or die situation for Palm. They were once the undisputed king of the PDA, but now that the PDA has merged with the mobile phone, they fell behind. If the Pre is not a success, I don't see how they can survive. It's pretty competitive out there!
