Windows Vista "Ultimate"

It was recently leaked that the "Ultimate" version of Windows Vista will be $399! Man, that's a steep price, don't you guys think? I mean, these days a new bottom of the line PC may cost you $500. I love the fact that when you get OSX, you get OSX. The whole enchilada with all the bells and whistles. Comments?

Sounds like MS is living in the dark ages. Back when Word alone cost $600-700. I don't think these prices will fly, unless they cripple the cheaper version enough to force companies who need a certain feature to pay. Making Linux or the OSX a more viable option. I believe companies are almost at their breaking point for how much they will put up with from MS. They are fed up with lax security, unfinished and buggy operating system, the anti-standards approach for their documents. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

Stitch, I don't think I could have said it better or more eloquently. I would have thought MS would give their users a break, given all that was promised and not delivered. It seems to be getting uglier as time goes on.

Gents,

I think it's ridiculous, too, but I do not think that MS is worried about that - I think it's an issue of putting it on the new PC's being sold, where I doubt the manufacturers are paying that kind of dough for the program. MS doesn't really need to price it well, so long as they get the program on PC's being sold.

A good dose of reality, Le. One can easily forget the mountains of PC's that will inevitably ship with Vista.
